89-year-old Ken Loach all his long life adhered to the left views, which, of course, could not but reflect on his extensive work. And if in a couple of recent films he somewhat retreated from his own creative themes and principles, then in the 19th full meter he returned to them. And returned triumphantly - "I, Daniel Blake" brought Loach and his permanent screenwriter Paul Laverty "Golden Palm Branch" Cannes (incidentally, the second in the collection of Loach).
Daniel Blake was a simple carpenter, until his misfortune overtook him: The picture represents the story of a young girl named Michel, who miraculously survived in a terrible car accident. In the rehab center, the heroine is recommending a new job. Going there, the girl becomes a hostage of three sadistic psychopaths who decided to punish the girl for her sins ...first his beloved wife died, and then with him right at the workplace had a heart attack. Now Daniel is in rehabilitation and at the same time is trying to re-equip his life and, like every citizen and diligent taxpayer, appeals for help to the state. It would have been better if he had not done this, as a result he finds himself in a macabre trap: doctors consider him to be inoperative, and social servants (obviously better than surgeons and physiologists versed in medicine) - on the contrary. As a result, Dan can not get anything: neither unemployment benefits, nor benefits for the unemployed. And he, an individual who has never used a computer or a smartphone, can appeal only through the Internet. Here is a modern "trick 22". But he, a man of the old formation and a "stubborn donkey" (by his own definition), does not give up and tries to fight, incidentally helping accidentally met single mother Katie with two young children, whom the compassionate government relocates from its native London to Newcastle for social housing (the case takes place exactly there). Good things can not end ...
The first thing that strikes in this film is how surprisingly lapidary means Loach and Laverty (the scriptwriter conducted a lot of interviews and studies, so the story is really based on real events) managed to break through the fabric of one reality and get into another: the reality of poor people in a prosperous society, people who just want to be themselves and not starve (one of the strongest scenes of the film unfolds in a food bank). But the modern state can not allow it, trying first of all to deprive them of their own dignity, forcing to go through endless circles of bureaucratic hell, asking for money that they can provide for themselves. And Loach's film is primarily about dignity and self-esteem, as the basis of the human personality. And then somehow the question arises why our filmmakers do not make films on this topic: the situation with subsidies is very similar to that described in the film "I, Daniel Blake": how should the family feel, honestly unable to earn a payment communal?Daniel Blake was a simple carpenter, until his misfortune overtook him: The picture represents the story of a young girl named Michel, who miraculously survived in a terrible car accident.
