Bruce Nolan (Jim Carrey) has a sin to complain about fate: in relatively young years, he achieved a stunning success, which only his friends-journalists can dream of. He is a very popular reporter in the small town of Buffalo, and his comic and thrilling stories have magical power over the television audience. But Bruce prefers to anger the higher forces, constantly complaining of bad luck and radiating pessimism. After all, he still does not manage to make a TV presenter's stunning career, and even pretty Grace (Jennifer Aniston), who is really in love with him, is not able to dispel his discouragement and give cheerfulness to the spirit. To top it off, the journalist's troubles begin to haunt him: he had the opportunity to make a terrific reportage, but the post he dreamed of was given to his closest competitor, his beloved car is sent for repairs, and the hooligans attack the hero himself. Desperate Bruce blames everything for his bad luck and even raises blasphemy against God himself.
And then the reporter is in an unusual building, where he meets not with someone, but with the Creator himself. It turns out that he had long been watching the behavior of Nolan and thoroughly knows his thoughts. The Creator offers a journalist whose lamentations are already standing across his throat, trying to do the work of God himself within a week. Now the hero is Bruce Almighty, and he is endowed with unlimited power and the ability to change any small thing in the world at will. But our pessimist does not yet know how difficult it is to perform divine functions.
